Wat Phra Kaew is a part of the Royal Grand Palace, located in the northeast of the palace. It is the most famous Buddhist temple of Thailand, and one of the three most valuable treasures of the country. It is a place for the king of Thailand to hold religion ceremonies and to worship the beautiful Emerald Buddha which makes the temple impressive.
Around the temple, there are about one kilometers’ wall painting in the gallery, where you can appreciate the 178 exquisite paintings based on the stories of the famous literature work Ramayana. There are several paintings on the chinaware screens telling the wonderful stories of China’s famous literature work Three Kingdoms.
The Emerald Buddha is the primary attraction of the temple. Every year when the season changes (hot, cool and rainy), the king will change the garments of the buddha in person. The two buddha statues in front of the Emerald Buddha represent the first and the second king of Thailand, everyone of which was built with 38 kg gold. There are wall painting all around the walls inside the hall. Besides, the decorations of the frames and doors are very beautiful and impressive, which will attract your great interest.
There are also excellent architectures for you to enjoy in the temple. In the north of the Great Buddha Hall lie some grand architectures, such as the cross shaped Prasart Phra Debidorn, on the top of which is a Khmer pagoda.
