The famous National Museum is located on one branch river of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya. The museum is close to the clear river, which makes it look like a palace on the river. There are canals leading to Mae Nam Chao Phraya. Tourists take a ship to the museum, and then there is a long bridge leading to the museum after they disembark.
The National Museum collects abundant impressive religious sculpture. Almost all the structures were constructed during 1782 when the palace of Rama I’s viceroy, Prince Wang Na. Rama V turned it into a museum in 1784. The art of decoration and ethnological exhibition presents almost every possible handicraft, including traditional musical instruments, clothes and textiles, ceramics, woodcarving, weaponry and etc. The archaeology and historic wing art has relics varies from prehistoric to the time of Bangkok.
It is said to be the largest museum of Southeast Asia, in which tourists can get to know the general conditions of Thailand culture and art. It is also a great place to know the history and past glory of Thailand. There are many huge beautiful ships presented there, and there are also a broken ship in the corner of the museum, which was destroyed by a plane during the war. They present it to let the people remember the disaster brought by war.
