Wat Pho

Wat Pho, or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, has the largest reclining buddha of the world. It is 46 meters long, 15 meters tall. The feet are 5 meters long, on which 108 Buddhist pictures are painted. The reclining posture is what the Buddha looked like when his nirvana happened. The surrounding walls are painted with pictures recording the life of the Buddha.

The construction of the Buddha is a huge project: they need to build such a huge Buddha and engrave so many exquisite pictures! But they are the believers of Buddhism, and they are building their faith with their labor.

Wat Pho was constructed in 1793, and it provides attractions more than the reclining buddha. The temple offers great architectures with very special decorations and design. There are almost one hundred pagodas inside the temple, four of which are the grandest ones. And the knowledge about history of the temple or the Buddhism, medicine, literature and etc, is another part of the temple you need to see. Wat Pho is considered as “The Fist University in Thailand” for this reason.

1.There are English speaking guides around the ticket office, charging 150B per person, 300B for two or above;
