Myanmar - Mingun

Located on the west bank of upper course of Irrawaddy River, some 11 kilometers north away from Mandalay, Mingun is a cultural ancient town of the period of King Mindon Min (who reined Myanmar from 1853 to 1878) in Konbaung Dynasty.

Mingun Ancient Town today still maintains three important historical relics. The first is the largest brick-making Buddhism pagoda in the world, the unfinished Mingun Paya; the second is a cream-cake-shaped Hsinbyume Paya which was built by King Mindon Min for his queen; the last is known as the largest and intact ancient bell still use today in the world.  

It is said that the cultural value of Mingun Paya is equal as a world-class relic, even not second to that of Egyptian pyramids though it is an unfinished architecture.

Transportation to Mingun Ancient Town: It needs to take a ship to get to Mingun at the wharf which is located at the end of No.26 Street in Mandalay. The ship departs from Mandalay at 9:00 a.m., will sail for 1 hour, and return from Mingun at 13:00 p.m..

Ticket: US$3 to buy a Mingun Pass to visit all attractions in Mingun Ancient Town, including Mingun Paya, Mingun Bell and Hsinbyume Paya.
