Xuan Huong Lake

The crescent-moon-shapedXuanHuongLakelies charmingly at the very heart of Dalat. It has a circumference of more than5km, covering the area of up to 38 hectares.

Witnessing many ups and downs in the history of Dalat,XuanHuongLakewas previously a swamp of lac grass and the rice fields of the Lach tribe who lived along the Da Lach stream - now known as Cam Ly stream. In the process of building the city ofDalat, in 1919, the stream was blocked to build a dam, creating a beautiful artificial lake. At that time, the lake had a French name as Grand Lac (BigLake) but later in 1953 it was renamed asXuanHuongLake, to express people’s appreciation to the famous Vietnamese female poet in the 19th century who has the same name.

On sunny days, the lake is a flat mirror reflecting the blue sky, with gentle ripples. On rainy days, the lake water is in red color. In the early morning,XuanHuongLakeis covered by clouds, creating unreal scenes. At night, it is covered with surreal smoke. From high above, amid the green of trees is gentleXuanHuongLakereflecting the clouds and the sky. Around the lake and the pine hill are the green lawns stretching. You can stroll in the balmy air, or paddle on the lake watching the sightseeing, or rent a bike to spend over an hour to pedal around the lake.

Xuan HuongLake is a meeting place of Dalat. There are many hotels and cafes with romantic views to the idyllic lake. Moreover, all roads around Dalat lead toXuanHuongLake, making it very convenient to visit the lake as well as other attractions. The lake is also the place for showing national bicycle racing contest and the place whereLamDongProvinceholds the cultural tourist events.
